How Our Business Model Cuts Waste

Updated: Feb 24

. . . And you receive an item made NEW, for YOU.

Whether it's clothing, electronics, food or something else entirely, a certain degree of waste is sadly inevitible. But there are ways to cut it from the levels that we often see.

In this age of consumerism, the 'sell, sell, sell' approach frequently results in overproduction. As much as estimating appropriate stock levels may not always be easy, retailers are often simply afraid of running out of items, fearing that customers will go elsewhere rather than wait (and yes, some will). This puts pressure on wholesalers and manufacturers to meet this demand. Then, when sales of some items inevitably fall short, we have unsold goods.

Though many overstocked products do eventually find their way to the consumer, many do not. And, of those that do sell, they may have been sitting on shelves for far longer than was good for them. In these instances, you might be paying a 'new' price for something that isn't really new.

Depending on your viewpoint, it can certainly be argued that the biggest downside of overproduction is environmental. In the era of increasingly common recycling, wasting resources is still lunacy and let's not forget that many things still end up on landfill.

So, how about a more made-to-order approach?

Whilst we're unable to offer a range of strictly personalised products (a few have already asked), our business is very much 'On Demand'. That is to say, your chosen item is only made once you've placed your order.

Needless to say, you won't receive your item a day or two after ordering it. If you're a 'fast fashion' kind of consumer then perhaps we're not what you're used to, but note that environmental considerations aren't the only benefit here.

When you buy from us, you'll never receive an item that's from an old batch. It's not just new to you, it's new for you. Nor will you ever be sent a customer-returned item.

Also, because we don't overstock, we can choose to offer some rather more quirky items that might be a tad 'niche', and sell a wider range of size options in our clothing.

And, on the subject of size, some products go all the way up to 6XL and we don't charge extra - whatever your size, the price is the same.

Whilst we naturally encourage you to buy from Delightfully Scrumptious, it is our wish that people take the time to make a considered purchase. Rather than buying something on a whim in anticipation of receiving it the next day, find something you really like and place your order safe in the knowledge that you won't ever be sent anything old, dusty or discarded.
